Conventional Polyesters
Conventional Polyester based polyurethane [PU] foams are available
in a wide range of densities and specifications.
Polyester foams are generally used in industrial and automotive applications.
Uses include air and water sealing, acoustic applications, and occassionally in high
specification packaging.
Materials are available in FMVSS - 302 and / or UL94 HF1 fire specifications, both
of which are specifications used in the automotive industry & HVAC industries.
Conventional Polyethers
Polyether based polyurethane [PU] foams are available in a wide range of densities
and specifications.
Polyether foams are used widely in packaging, industrial, automotive and acoustic applications.
These are lower cost materials compared to polyesters, and tend to be used in less
technologically demanding applications.
As with polyesters, grades are available which meet various FR specifications.
Reticulated Polyurethane Foams
Custom Foams' reticulated foams are unique, environmentally friendly, extraordinarilly
versatile polyurethane foams, that can be fabricated into virtually any configuration,
for use in hundreds of different products and applications.
The product is thermally reticulated, a process which removes the cell walls, leaving
a material of skeletal structure having a void area of some 97%. In addition the thermal
reaction considerably increases the physical strength of the material. This is achieved
by the material removed in the process unblocking the cells being wrapped around the cell
struts. This increases the strut thickness and results in an increased tensile strength
and greater resistance to heat, abrasion and chemical attack.
Reticulated foams are available in a wide range of porosity, which is measured
in PPI, or Pores Per Inch.
Reticulated Polyesters
Reticulated Polyesters are manufactured in a range of porosity from 4ppi to 120ppi,
and are available in FR grades to FMVSS 302 and UL900 smoke emission standard.
Applications suitable for reticulated polyester include: ceramic filter production,
air filtration, fluid filtration, cosmetic, electronic and surgical products.
[ Reticulated polyesters are not suitable for water filtration applications. ]
Reticulated Polyethers
Reticulated Polyether foams are also available in a wide range of porosity
from 10ppi to 60ppi. They are also available in a number of colours.
Applications suitable for reticulated polyethers include air & water filtration,
coalescing filtration and the bio-filtration of pond and fountain water systems.
Reconstituted Foams
Reconstituted foam (chip foam) is produced using crumbed scrap foam of
various grades, and is available in a range of densities.
This product range is largely used as a packaging material due to its
relatively low cost and high impact absorbing properties.
Impregnated Foams
The physical properties of both standard and reticulated foam can be enhanced
by impregnating the material with a range of chemical compounds.
Examples of our products include:
Pyrosorb - an excellent sound absorption material; and an extensive range
of filter foam products including activated carbon, and semi-rigid for self supporting
filter applications.
